Joint Workshop

Introduction to Machine Learning

Lyle Ungar, University of Pennsylvania

Machine learning is flourishing, drawing on methodological advances in areas ranging from Bayesian modeling to deep learning, and supported by the widespread availability of multifaceted data, open source software and cheap computing. This workshop will give a quick overview of recent advances and trends in data science, with an eye towards what people in the process industries might find useful, asking, for example, "How is deep learning different from the neural network models of previous decades?
